Dr Chris Steele Talks About Lipobind
A recent study have over 5000 UK adults found that 2/3rds of them worry about the amount of fat they eat. They also found that the reason that most people want to lose weight is that they want to look more attractive.
Chris, there are actually good health reasons for why we would want to reduce fat intake aren't there?
Dr Chris: Yes, we're eating far too much fat, too much saturated fat and the consequence of this modern diet is that we're getting all sorts of diseases. One of course is obesity, increased risk of heart attack, strokes, raised blood pressure, high cholesterol levels. So yes the modern diet is causing all sorts of problems.
Survey actually revealed that many in this struggle to manage our eating habits.
Dr Chris: All habits are difficult to change anyhow, once you get into a routine things tend to stay that way. We are used to eating foods with a high fat concentration and to make that change, it's not easy to go into a low-fat diet.
For a lot of people it's time of course you're eating fast food, convenience food, burgers and that's making it even worse.
Dr Chris: Yes, that's modern living isn't it. Convenience foods – they are high-fat, the snacks are high-fat, fat is everywhere.
Is the worst fat saturated fat?
Dr Chris: This is where it gets complicated. You have got all types of different fat: saturated fat, unsaturated fat and there are trans fats. The unsaturated fats can be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated so it is complicated. To keep it simple: reduce your saturated fat intake.
What foods have saturated fat in them?
Dr Chris: Well saturated fats are fats that are solid at room temperature and they tend to be in meats and dairy products.
There are some products on the market but will help you manage your eating habits. One such product is Lipobind which is a natural product made from an extract of cactus leaves.
So Chris how does something like Lipobind work?
Dr Chris: Well it's quite interesting, the active ingredient in lipobind actually combines with fat that hasn't been absorbed or metabolised, by binding the fat it stops it from entering through the lining of the intestine so you don't absorb the fat. You may be eating fat in your diet, but this is actually blocking the absorption.
So by using this product you will be reducing your fat intake?
Dr Chris: Yes, you will not be absorbing as much fat as you were previously consuming. so it gets you thinking about fat in your diet, you will start paying attention to the labels to see what fat content is. It makes you more aware of the fat in your diet.
Of course you need fat in your diet, some fat
Dr Chris: Yes it's very important for you we all need fat in our diet however we are eating too many of the saturated fats, the unsaturated fats are the healthy ones.
Is this safe method of reducing fat?
Dr Chris: Yes it's a safe product, it is just blocking the absorption of excess fats. However like most medical products it is not to be used by pregnant women or if you're breastfeeding or if you're underweight. and if you're on medication or have a medical condition talk to your GP.
Do you need a prescription for this product?
Dr Chris: No Lipobind is available over the counter
